Restaurant Profile: La Luna

A lot of music artists will say that a bad break up or the end of a relationship makes for a good song. The same could be said of  La Luna, just with a twist.
La Luna originated under the name La Roca in downtown Oklahoma City, in 1983. After the owner's of La Roca filed for a divorce, the wife, Cindy Cabrera, acquired the restaurant. Emily Littlejohn, the assistant manager at La Luna in Norman, says that through the divorce the restaurant turned into La Luna. The restaurant opened its second location here in Norman eight years ago. Well, like in music, the end of relationship turned into the beginning of new one…. just with food, not a song.
“The quesadillas here are to die for – especially with the salsa,” says Chason Lane, a regular customer at La Luna, and a senior at OU. “I would say I come to La Luna at least once or twice a week. It’s a cheap little hangout spot; I like it.”
Located in the heart of Campus Corner, La Luna is frequented by students not only for the great food, but for the drinks as well.

“Happy hour is really good," Lane says, "you got to go with the Modelo and Tecate, drink specials are exactly what I come here for.”
One of the restaurants favorite drinks is the swirl. A mixture of two different types of margaritas, it is a crowd pleaser, says La Luna Bartender Andrea Marsh.
“I really like the swirl - everybody should try it. It's really strong and tastes good,” she says.
Marsh, who has been working at La Luna for the past two years, says she enjoys the atmosphere of La Luna, because “it’s really laid-back, and everybody’s pretty cool. You get to drink on the job.”
Besides good food and good drinks, Lane says Thursday nights at La Luna are very fun because it is trivia night.
At La Luna, an array of Mexican food selections pops out as soon as the menu is opened. There are six different types of nachos alone, all at affordable prices. "Cindy's Favorites" is another section on the menu, with twelve choices from the owner herself. With sixty items on the menu, chances are there is something for everyone.
La Luna is known for its good food, awesome drinks, and exciting atmosphere. With all of that it’s no wonder the little Mexican Café is a hot-spot for students around campus.
According to the website, La Luna is “not your typical Mexican joint.” And this makes it worth checking out because it claims “the best Mexican food joint on this side of the border.”
